MS Project 2007

I am using MS project 2007. Looking at your resource allocations/resource
sheet, I want to replace a resource between specific dates with in my
schedule. The resource is allocted to numerous tasks. I don't want to use
Task Usage and do it manually, it is very time consuming. There has to be a
simple way of replacing a resource for a period of time within a project
schedule. The resource will not be replace permanently.
My problem is that resources are moving in and out of the project on a
regular basis and keeping track of all tasks and resource usage with in the
task is time consuming. I had a look at MS Project 2010 but it does not have
the feature of replacing resources with in specific times.

One approach is to assign skills rather than individuals so there is no need
to swap. Otherwise you need to:
Select all Tasks for which the Resource is to be swapped,
Click the Assign Resources Icon (or Alt+F10).
Select the resource to swap out,
Click the Replace button.
Select the new resource and click OK.

All remaining work is swapped.

In addition to Rod Gill's excellent answer, you can quickly locate the tasks
assigned to the resource between specific dates by applying the Using
Resource in Date Range filter. Then use Rod's steps to "swap" the assigned
resource with another resource. Hope this helps.
