MS Project, Turn off Critical Path, but keep date cascading.

Okay, got an interesting one here (I hope). My company wants to turn off the
automatic critical path identification function of MS project. However, when
we do that it appears to impact the use of dependencies. If the Calculation
Mode is set to Manual rather than Automatic, then the pushing of dependent
task dates does not occur. Is there a way to maintain the automatic
calculations, but turn off the critical path identification portion of it?
Thank you.

Hi Matt,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Try Format/Gantt Chart Wizard and de-select Critical when you get to it.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Showing or hiding the CP has no effect on dependencies or if or how they
are calculated. Setting calculation to "Manual" will certainly stop any
automatically calculated changes, including pushing dependent tasks out
when a predecessor slips. The two are independent. Just turn of display of
CP (by running the Gantt Chart Wizard) and turn calculation to Automatic.
