MS VB Run time error 509

I get a MS VB Run time error 509 message when double
clicking to launch a Word document on Office 2003.

"The ToolsOptionsCompatibility command is not available
because a document window is not active"

I've checked and changed options to no avail. Anyone ever
run into this problem?

The only reason I can think of for this to happen is that either Normal.dot
or the document itself contains an AutoExec or AutoOpen macro that tries to
set options on the Compatibility tab of Tools | Options.
