MSocache problem

Sick of having to stick my disk in when new converter or whatever has to
be installed. So I copied the whole installation disk to my boost drive.

Needed converter for a wps file for word. The popped up installer for
office doesn't work worth crap.

Aimed at the MSocache on the boost drive but it doesn't search at all
for anything. So at each stage of the process it asks where the needed
file is when the file is right there in the msocache somewhere. Then it
starts you off in the root directory and asks YOU to look for it when
the damn thing is right under it's nose.

Finally got all the way to the msi file after laboriously looking up
about 8 files (which were in the same two directories for God's sake)
but then office said that was on a network drive and unavailable.

Is there any workaround to this?

When you say "boost drive" I assume that refers to a USB thumbdrive? I don't
know how you could have gotten the \MSOCache folder to be placed on a
removable drive, but this must be Office 2003 and if so, then you should use
the LISTOOL to move the \MSOCache folder to a hard drive partition:

You need to do this when installing Office the 1st time. That is where you can
decide to have the MSOcache installed. You cannot do this after the fact

I dragged the existing msocache to the thumb drive then I copied the
entire install cd into the msocache. The first time I did it I somehow
didn't copy the entire cd... missed a lot of cab files. After fixing
that everything works fine. The first time I updated office excel it
asked where the file was. From then on it has remembered and works
flawlessly.

Actually it worked just fine just moving it with explorer if I copied
the entire cd into the cache on the thumb drive. After one try,
directing the installer there, it remembered the next time.
