As a template designer, it would make my life easier if you would add a 2nd
category to yoru template area. Right now, you just have GENERAL QUESTIONS,
but you also should have Templates Wanted. Alot of folks have template
requests and they mix those requests for templates in with the General
Questions. To me, general questions should be for general SUPPORT questions,
like how to do something, BUT you should have a separate category for those
people who are asking folks for template requests...so a category of
TEMPLATES WANTED or TEMPLATES REQUESTED...then you could separate support
questions from 'wanted' questions...

I don't disagree with you, but the reality is, this newsgroup isn't very
heavily trafficked, so it should not be terribly difficult for someone to
monitor and pick out requests if they were so inclined.

Also, as JoAnn mentioned, a lot of the template requests are for very custom
templates, and those aren't something the requestor is going to find on
Microsoft's template site anyway. More general requests I'm sure get
filtered to the right people.

I understand what you're saying about making it easier for you to pick out
requests -- so maybe you could provide the template as a community
template -- and I think that's a great idea. I just don't think it's going
to happen. But we can definitely cross our fingers! :)

I guess for me, it could be free. If someone has a great idea and I'm looking
for things to make, its no big deal. As a technical writer, I'm always making
thing, so often I use the boards to spur my ideas. So, if I wanted to provide
it as a free download, then I could...

I guess it would be nice to see them broken out, but I could just troll it
on my own too...

Thanks JoAnn for your feedback!

Like Echo said, the requests get to be very specific. Like spreadsheets for
an online Barbie clothing reseller. Okay, I'm making that up but seriously,
many of the requests I've seen can be easily created by adapting existing
documents. They just need to put in a little time and effort. Sometimes that
means learning a new skill - that's *never* a bad thing.

I would be very careful about making comments like "Hey, I'll make that
template for you for free!" because it won't take long until you have no
time for yourself. And heaven forbid something not work right because you
will need asbestos undies. But if you are serious about that offer, create a
website and offer your services. I don't doubt you will find plenty of
takers out there.
