Network Saved Templates and File Locks

When someone on our network opens a file that was created with one of the
templates on the network, a file lock is placed on the template. Since the
template was used to create the document and then saved in another location
on the network under another name, I am at a loss on how to deal with this.
Any help greatly appreciated. Windows 03 using Office 03. (Word)

I'm not exactly sure what you are describing. If you open a document that
uses a network template a lock shouldn't be placed on the template. Can you
expand a little more on this exact issue you are encountering?

This the issue that is so strange about this; One user opens five different
documents on the server that were all created by him using the same template,
saved with different names as .doc files. When he does this, anyone
attempting to use the template gets a "You do not have sufficient rights to
open this file" message. When the other users can not access this template,
naturally they call me. I look at open files listing on My Computer on the
server to see who has this template locked up. When I have him close the
files he has open, everything returns to normal. I understand that two people
can not have the same file open for editing, but having the template locked
for editing when, theoretically it's not even being opened has me at a loss.
Thanks
Bill
