New to W2007 -there appear to be larger spaces between words

There appear to be spaces between words when I work on a document now that
are larger than a normal space. I am not sure what is causing this. I just
upgraded from Word 2000. It seems that Word 2007 is spreading words out
automatically instead of using a normal space that comes from using the space
bar. Interestingly, when I look at the document in full screen reading view,
this goes away and the document appears normal, with spacing as I would
expect. However, spacing seems off in print layout mode.

Check your paragraph formatting to make sure that the alignment is Left
rather than Justified.

Thanks. That's not it, however. I thought it looked justified but it actually
isn't. I was going to describe it as looking like it was justified, but it's
only partial, or rather, slight. So it looks a little justified, but not
quite. Sorry if this is confusing (it is why I didn't put in in the post
originally). So the spaces are larger than normal but still not justified.

I should note that I am using not using clear type as I am on a CRT. Could
this have something to do with it?

Since you have turned off the "Always use ClearType" option in Office button
| Word Options, you may want to check the "Optimize character positioning
for layout rather than readability" option (found under "Display") in the
Advanced category.
