Duplex choice appears, and prints just fine, from Apple software such as
Safari or Mail. Even with the most recent printer driver downloaded from
Lexmark, there is no duplex choice in the Word Print box. Collated - yes.
Two-sided - no. Is there a way to get Word to use the Apple software print
choices?

Thanks for your help,
Mark

Hi Mark:

I am missing something somewhere in your question.

The "Word Print Box" you refer to IS the Apple dialog. The dialogue you see
is actually a Finder window -- Word just calls the Apple Printing Subsystem.

I am at a bit of a loss here as to what to ask: I need more detail (such as
your version of Word and OS...) but I am not sure what else to ask for.

In researching your question, I discovered that the most recent Apple update
has removed my printer definition. Which is a pain in the A, because I am
on the road currently and won't return to my office for several weeks. The
driver for my printer won't install unless the printer is visible :)

Cheers

FWIW, I see the same thing, using Office:2004. I have 3 different
printers on our network that are capable of duplex printing, and the
"2 sided" checkbox does not appear in Office applications, but does
appear in all other applications. I am able to print two sided from
Office, but the only way to do so is to go to the "Layout" page of the
print dialog box, where there is a 2 sided option showing. This
behavior started when I had to reinstall the OS (Leopard, on a 24"
iMac 2.8 GHZ-late 2007). As far as I can tell, I am using the correct
printer drivers for all the printers I use on the network.

Have you checked for an update for print Driver.

Also download the latest Print Driver installer for your printer, even if its the
very same version you have.

Next go to Printer utility and delete the print driver from the list.

The installer for HP printers (I using for sake of illustration) also has an
uninstall feature which will remove all traces of the Installed Print Driver and its
supporting files. Try running the uninstaller first, then reinstall.

Next go into Printer Utility re-add the Printer.

Next go to System preferences and click on control panel for Printer.

Choose your printer driver and make it the default printer.

Now open word go to printer Setup and make sure your printer is set as default
printer. if not set it for your printer.

Next choose the document you want to two side print, and choose two sided-printing
see if you can now choose it. if you can click on the printer name and choose save
as give a Name like Word two-sided, and save. Next time you go in word click on word
two sided and everything will be set as how you did when you saved the preference.

I found it!

First, Mac Word 2008 and Leopard 10.5.6. Sorry about that.

But no, the Print Boxes are not the same. Both have Printer and Pre-set
drop-down menus first, though the Apple one shifts both menus to the right to
make room for a thumbnail preview on the left. But on the Apple one the next
"line" contains the Copies box along with the checkmarkable choices for
Collated (defaults with a check mark) and Two-Sided (defaults to empty). On
the Word one the next "line" has another drop-down menu with no title but the
choice displayed is Copies and Pages. After revealing the menu, I can choose
Layout. The four choices under Layout are Pages per Sheet, Layout Direction,
Border, and ta-dah!, Two-Sided, with the default Off. The other two choices
are for binding on the long edge and binding on the short edge. I tried long
edge binding and it works.

Appreciate your suggestions!
