No video playing in PPT

I have ready every thread and tried everything. I have the correct codec, I
installed PFC Pro and it is still the same--when I try to play the AVI file
it has sound but no video. I can convert to the wmv file and it works but I
need to play DVDs from my hard drive for legal purposes and cannot convert to
wmv files. It used to work before I did a hard reinstall and now it doesn't.
What is going on?

You can convert VOB files to wmv or whatever you need!

I am confused here. Are these video files "ripped" from a commercial
(retail) DVD? If so they contain DRM and can NOT be used in PowerPoint?
However, with PFCPro you can play a clip as needed directly from the DVD.

This is not that uncommon. I found that PFC in any version would not play,
on my computer, absolutely anything without crashing. I gave up on it (and
tech support).

can locate. How about you start at the beginning with the version of PPT,
version of Windows, what sort of files they are and their source, then maybe
I can help you.

I sent it directly to the company.

I am using .mpg with video encoded in Mpeg 2, variable bit rate, layer 2
audio. I have tried other formats with the same result. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled multiple times.

What happens is that the program installs in Powerpoint2007 and provides the
tools. When I run and click on the play object, the entire show freezes.
I must use task manager to restart by stopping Powerpoint et al.

What version of Windows?

What is the original source of the videos?

Are you able to play any video in PowerPoint at all?

1. PowerPoint 2007 12.0.631 SP1

2. Windoes XP Media Center

3. ADS Video Capture Device (although I tried other files from the web in
..mpg format)

4. Yes, video will play in Mpeg1 format using the insert function inherent
in PP. It will play video using Media Player if I embed it and hard link or
it will play my mpegs if I hyperlink.

First, with Windows XP you must install a DVD codec as it does NOT contain
one natively. (Example WinDVD, etc.)

Second, I suspect that when you installed your capture card and software it
altered the systems codec settings. I would download and reinstall Windows
Media Player. While it doesn't really come into play in PowerPoint,
re-installing it will usually correct your codec's and their associations.

PowerDVD, NeroShowtime.

videos natively and when I try to help you all I hear is your ranting about
it instead of trying the solutions I suggest to correct it. You obviously
have installed a lot of third party video software and there IS a conflict
in the system. (On that I am 100% certain.) You choices are to listen to
what is suggested to correct it, or not. Your choice. If you chose to not
follow the advice that's fine, but I would ask that you remove our software
and never reinstall it. Sorry if that sounds mean but I can not help
someone that refuses to accept it and follow through on the recommendations.

I can write better kludge software (which is what it is...I suspect the
invoked filter).

I think you have cognitive problems. Every program on my computer
works...except this one. Appeals for help are so obvious and stupid that it
is insulting. Goodbye horrible company...even your disclaimers in the
program imply that it works marginally across platforms. Don't get on a

finally tried it. I worked with it for weeks and it never ran. It fails.
