non-breaking space problem

O

O. Berkeley

I am using Word 2003. I have expressions like "3 ml" that I don't want to
break at the space between the "3" and the "ml". I've inserted a non-breaking
space and even see the little circle that stands for the non-breaking space,
but the expression is still breaking between the number and the letter!

And, no, I didn't leave the regular space character in the expression. I
have also tried to retype the expression from scratch, but it still doesn't
work.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem? Help!!
