Nope! ON messes Synchronization!

M

OK it has been too often and I need to raise the issue:

First the side information:
1. I use On 2007 on a xp prof machine and on a vista ultimate machine.
2. I keep my files on a USB stick and syn between the two computers in the
morning and in the evening
3. My notebook is about 120 mb. I consider myself a heavy ON user with many
sections and with many many pages of text in each section.

I have raised the issue before. At that time, with the help of some MVPs
here, we tried to figure out why my synchronization between the two
computers were messing up.

Since then I have been very careful in what I am doing:
1. I come to work and open the computer: I insert my usb stick and open ON
to sync.
2. After the sync I unplug it.
3. I work the whole day on ON
4. In the evening before I leave work: I close all ON pages. I plug in the
usb stick. I open ON and sync.
5. I go home after work. Open my machine and insert the USB stick: I sync
ON.

Generally this works fine, although at times I had some issues: Some pages
that I deleted at work reappeared at home.
When this happened I thought that I made a mistake.

But today something similar happened (and it has nothing to do with sync
between the work and home computers):
Today:

1. I came to work open the computer and did the sync.
2. I unplugged the usb stick and started to work in ON offline. I did move
many pages from one section to others inside a section.
3. I closed all On pages and plugged in the usb stick.
4. I turned on ON and it started to sync automatically, as it always does.
5. "Some" of the pages that I have moved, when I was working offline,
reappeared!!!!!!!!!

Here I do not see any mistake of mine. I carefully did the sync. ON messes
up the sync here.

Any idea about what is going on?

You mention that later again:
What do you mean by "close all ON pages"??

Apart:
Why do you unplug the stick after the initial synching in the morning?
Why don't you just leave it plugged in?

It's been a while since I've used a USB stick for sync'ing but...

....why are you going thru the routine of removing the stick while you
work on ON and then closing, reinserting, reopening....

You should be able to plug in the USB stick, start ON, work in it all
day. At the end close ON (I'd probably shut down the computer too),
remove the USB stick, then take it home and do the same thing there.

I wonder if that might not make for more reliable sync'ing.

You are right. The reason may sound strange to you but it is an issue for
me: The stick is on my way and I bump to it all the time when doing things
on the table. Once my stick was bended and did not work. Hence I decided to
work offline with the stick unplugged.

But anyways: I think sync is important and if there is a bug it should be
fixed. I still want a solution to my problem.

If the description of your sync habits is complete then you still don't
sync in the evening at home AFTER your changes at home.
You have to sync 4 times as I suggested before.

What do you mean by AFTER my changes at home?
I come home and do the sync. This is where the problem arises.
If I make further changes at home, of course I sync those changes.
But this is not the point.

But anyways, yes I do 4 times sync:
1. At home before and after working
2. At work before and after working

So there is a strict cycle I am following.
I did this very carefully and I am still having sync problems.

Next question:

You always (in all your parallel threads) speak about "closing all ON
pages". What do you really close?
Pages cannot be closed, only notebooks or ON can be closed.
But: notebooks in use should never be closed on any of the participating
computers, as Rainald has mentioned in this NG so often !
I'm afraid that closing cached/unsynced notebooks could cause (your)trouble.

Simply the open ON windows

No I do not close notebooks or anything. By close I mean: pressing the cross
sign at the top right corner of a ON window.
