Not Enough Memory

I use a spreadsheet (size about 75000 k) for my key work. I used to work with
this file in a Compaq laptop with 512 MB memory and a Intel mobile processor.
I have recently moved to AMD Athlon 64x2 3800+ processor with 2GB or Memory.
The same file (along with many other excel simultaneously opened) which used
to work smoothly in the laptop fails to even open in the new system with
higher configuration. I get the error "Not Enough Memory". What could be the
reason and what is the solution?

With respect to the OS, I use Win XP_ SP2 in both systems. The new system
uses Media Centre Edition.

What/which version(s) of Excel on the machines?
I would think that generally the 62x2 3800 should handle things just as well
as the Compaq. I just finished working with a single 14+MB Excel file on a
32-bit, single core AMD 3200+ system without issue. I have no doubt it would
run equally as well on my HP Laptop with X2 3700+ and 1 GB RAM.

What happens if you try to use that one file without the other Excel files
open?

And you might take a look in the Task Manager under both [Processes] and
[Performance] to try to determine what's eating up your memory and where it's
all going?

I have just had similar problems with WinXP giving me an Out of Memory error
when trying to run too many macros in succession. The program ran fine in
XP until I got too many macros..... could be there is some sort of stack
limit or somthing that reaches overflow with too much activity, rather than
too much data.......my file is only a little over 3MB. The whole thing runs
fine in WinMe, but crashs every time on 6 different WinXP systems.
The program runs fine on a 366 Me machine with 160MB RAM, but won't run on a
3GB XP machine with 1GB RAM.......for more details, see my thread titled
"Macros crash, "Not enough memory"", of 2/9/07
