Note Cards In Publisher 2003

Vicki

I am a novice user of Publisher. I notice that there are some "design"
templates for note cards (4.25 x 5.5) but they are all set up for
quarter-fold stock and I don't want 1/4 fold cards. Blank documents are also
set up for 1/4 fold cards. There are no blank templates for note cards, two
per page, which is actually a very common design and card stock.

I want to create and print note cards using Avery stock such as 3379. This
stock allows two cards, front/back, per sheet.

I have tried to use both the blank booklet and blank tent-fold templates and
neither work. Booklet, using page size 11 x 4.25 (for landscape) *appears*
to work. It sets up four "pages:" front, 2 inside, back. However, when I
attempt to print, what I get is three pages, not two. Intuitively, I'm
looking for the document to print front and back on one side of the sheet and
the two inside pages on the other side of the sheet. That is not happening.

Trying to use tent-fold or top-fold cards is absolutely confounding to me.

My printer is a Canon PIXMA ip8500 and will automatically duplex print -
which is also what I want to do.

I can't figure out how to create and print front/back note cards 4.25 x 5.5
or 5.5 x 4.25, depending on orientation).

Can someone help me figure out how to facilitate what I'm trying to do? Is
there somewhere I can find simple, step-by-step instructions? I'm sure this
is possible, but I'm not familiar enough with Publisher to figure out how to
make it so.

Thanks

Page setup, booklet, change the height to 4.25, this setup will give you 2 cards per
page. If you want to use a design from the wizards, open a new instance of Publisher,
copy/paste the objects into your new setup.

That *is* how I set it up:11" is the width; 4.25" is the height. The preview says it prints two pages
per sheet of paper. It does: front/inside1 one one piece of paper and
inside2/back on a second sheet of paper. What I want AND need is to print
front/back on one side and inside 2/3 on the other side of *one* piece of
paper - so when it is folded, it looks and reads like a card.

How do I do that?

I can tell from print preview, that the booklet setup is not working as I
want it. Each page shows the graphic or text at the TOP of the sheet, when in
fact, all should be on the BOTTOM of the sheet.

I wish I could post a print screen to this forum. It would show clearly what
I am trying to say.

I then try TENT FOLD CARD. It, too, appears to set up correctly in the work
area. However, it also prints front/inside1 on one sheet of paper and
inside2/back on a second sheet of paper. Clearly that is not what I would
expect nor what I want. A card should print front/back on one side and
inside1/inside2 on the other side of one piece of paper.

How do I change the page printing order?

Also, are there any user group e-mail lists focusing on Publisher?

Thanks,

A booklet will work for you...

Page setup, booklet, landscape, height 4.25 width 5.5... When you go to print, from
page one & four, select current page, click no, turn the page over, from page two &
three, current page, click no again.

This setting works almost, but not quite. It sets up page 1 (front) on the
right side of the sheet and page 4(back) on the left side of the sheet. For
cards (in landscape orientation), the front needs to be on the bottom of the
sheet and the back on the top of the sheet in order to top-fold correctly.
This gives a side-fold; not how my cards are designed.

Also, it appears that with booklet, at least, true duplex printing does not
work correctly, but that is a different topic entirely.

I'm happy to try more suggestions, but I also wonder why the Tent Card
option does not seem to be a viable option. I haven't been able to set that
up correctly.

Thank you,

Okay, I misunderstood.
Select the tent card, page setup, portrait, width 4.25, height, 5.5. Publisher will
ask about two pages, yes. Insert two more pages.
The back of your card will be page two, Publisher will automatically flip whatever
you insert so it will be correct when folded. Page 3 will have your text. If you have
anything on page 4 you will have manually rotate it or Publisher will print it upside
down...
You will see what I mean in Print preview.

Thanks, Mary. You gave me just enough of the right - and missing -
information to figure this out. I didn't understand the sequence of
printing. To know the back is actually page 2 was the trick. The text is
actually page four; it does print upside down and in the right place.

I had been using Digital Imaging Suite to create my cards. An unresolvable
margin issue brought my business to a screeching halt. This gets me back up
and running.

Thank you so much for your knowledge and your patience. Most appreciated.

You are the one with patience... I should have realize your issue from the get-go...
Thanks for the feedback.
