Off2007 GPO Deployment Error

C

Christine Lisi

I am testing deployment of Office 2007 Enterprise. When I process the GPO
without the config.xml file the deployment goes perfectly. When I use the
config.xml file, which I need to chain some installs, I get this error:

"The Setup configuration file config.xml is not valid. Run Setup again
without using a Setup configuration file, or fix the configuration file."

I have reviewed my config.xml file and cannot find anything wrong. As far
as I can see, all my Elements and Attributes are in the correct Case. Is
there anyone out there who can help me?

Thanks in advance.

I have been having the same problem. I was able to get this to work by
calling a bat file and have that call the MSI packages. I can not get this to
work using MS example nor the technet link (says the same thing). I would
like to see this work the way "they" say it should.......

Problem is that Microsoft don't support their own solutions. Notice how many
posts go unanswered. This was one of them. Microsoft are not so much
concerned with these newsgroups nor the problems which they don't wish to
address. It's all about money, unfortunately.

Hi Christine,

Generally, the discussion/newsgroups are peer support. If you are an MSDN or Technet subscriber and post through the concierge
feature for subscribers under an account setup there then the questions are viewed by Microsoft. Beyond that the
setup/installation/deployment support included with a particular license purchase type is part of the terms of that license
purchase.

In the Config.xml file, which one did you modify and which folder is it in? The one in the same folder as Setup.exe is generally
preferred to one in a subfolder of the Office Network Admin point.

Would love the link to the "concierge" posting area if you know it. We are
MSDN and Technet subscribers.

The config.xml file is placed at the root of the Enterprise.WW folder, which
is the correct location for our install. There are a lot of complaints about
Microsoft not supporting the roll out of Office 2007 using Group Policy -
amazing as it might seem.

Thanks Bob. I look forward to your response.

Hi Christine,

Try putting the modified config.xml in the same folder as setup.exe and putting the 'vanilla' one for Enterprise.WW back in that
folder.

The news/discussion groups for Technet subscribers are under 'subscriber benefits' on
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx
The posting will end up back here, but if you have setup a 'Posting Alias' account there your postings will be flagged to the MS
folks :)
