Office 2007 Network Installation with Office Customization Tool

I have found the following artical and followed the steps listed:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...1342-4524-8242-1524fbd068a51033.mspx?mfr=true

However when I install the product the Setup Customizations dont apply.

1) I created a new folder on my network share and then copied the CD
contents to this share
2) I ran the /admin switch off the setup.exe file on the share.
3) I saved the output from the /admin tool to the updates folder on the
share. I appears if i use this folder I dont need to do anything else.
4) I run setup.exe from the share and it runs just as it does from the CD
with out my customizations.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have read some other links and found a
few things here and there none of which seem to work.

Well you are right. You customizations should take effect if the .msp file is
in the updates folder.

Do they take effect when you point to the .msp when you run setup? This test
could tell you if your .msp has a problem or if it is the functionality of
looking in the updates folder.

Try

Setup.exe /adminfile (\\Full_path\Config.msp)

Eric thanks for the feedback.

It will take effect if i run setup and after the install and then run the
msp file.

I tried to run this and it still didnt take affect:

\\fs-2\apps\Office2007\setup.exe /adminfile
\\fs-2\apps\Office2007\Updates\config.msp

I ran it again with the wrong file name and it says it cant find the
specified file, so I assume it can find the one i made it and just does not
apply it. I only made a few very limited changes to the package such as
outlook profile and CD key accept license and a few outlook tweaks, i then
did file save as and created the msp file. Did i do somthing wrong there?

No... it sounds like your process is sound.

If the .msp file is not taking when you point directly to it using
/adminfile, then I have to assume there is something wrong with the .msp
file.

Are any of the settings taking? Is it asking for a product key, or does that
part take? I wonder if the product key in the .msp could be mistyped.

What happens if you re-create the .msp from scratch?

Perhaps you could send it to me to test?

Eric,

Thanks again for the feedback, i did make the msp file again, however this
time I did notice that there was a check box for migrate user settings
enabled. I think on testing with a few systems some of the options i picked
were changed by the migration, rather than taking the settings i has set in
the msp file. I am going to try on a new install of XP and see how it
installs there. If that takes all my config I will need to decide on that
migrate settings option. What is your thought about using the migrate user
settings option???

E

Eric A.

Well for the most part you typically do want to migrate user settings right?

I can't say that I have seen a situation where selecting "migrate settings"
kept OCT settings from taking effect, but it might be specific to the
settings you are working with.

What happened when you installed on a machine that never had office installed?

THe blank PC the install went though not asking for the CD key or license
agreement, but no settings such as the profile and server info were not
applied. I am going to try it again with out the migrate user settings stuff.
And see what that does.

Eric A.

It should be noted that Office 2007 should detect the username and exchange
server name automatically without any settings in the OCT. This
functionallity is new to Office 2007.

Yes you are right, it does auto detect things. however i would prefer it to
pick up my settings, some of our users will not even attempt to click next
with out calling the help desk. I figure if i can get this thing to work that
should work also.

There must have been somthing wrong with my OCT file, I started over from
scratch and cut and paste my CD key (I know it was right when i typed it in
as i had 3 people check it on the first one) However this time the settings
took. Go figure!?!?!?!
