Office 2008 working directory

Processor: Intel

I recently switched my home computer from a PC to a new Intel Mac and one of the apps for which I made sure to obtain a replacement version for the Mac is, of course Office...

I have observed a few quirks and which I will be posting about as time goes by...

The BIGGEST question I have is this: Is there a reason the "Microsoft User Data" folder resides in the Documents folder rather than in Libraries -> Application Support?

I would think that the Documents folder would be for just documents and nothing else... so why is this Office support directory sitting in the Documents folder?

Can I move it to the Applications Support directory myself? If not, PLEASE consider updating Office to look for the "Microsoft User Data" folder in a different location with the Home folder!

The BIGGEST question I have is this: Is there a reason the "Microsoft
User Data" folder resides in the Documents folder rather than in
Libraries -> Application Support?

This is a long debate within the Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) at
Microsoft. They are following Apple's guidelines but those guidelines
can be interpreted in a couple of different ways depending on how you
read them.
Can I move it to the Applications Support directory myself? If not,
PLEASE consider updating Office to look for the "Microsoft User Data"
folder in a different location with the Home folder!

You can move the folder and replace it with an alias or symlink pointing
back to the original. Office will only look in the one location for its
files.

This newsgroup is for peer-to-peer support (Office users helping other
Office users) and is not an official feedback mechanism for Microsoft.
Please be sure to let Microsoft know you'd like to see this feature
changed in future versions by using the Help --> Send Feedback mechanism
in any Office application.

Hope this helps!

Noted and done. Also submitted gripes to M$ via feedback and to Apple via website feedback form.
