Office Enterprise 2007 installation / upgrade

D

David Sweet

I installed the upgrade to MS office 2003 Professional to MS Office 2007
Enterprise. Now whenever I open one of the applications, IE outlook, excel,
word the configuration process page opens up and says it is "Configuring MS
office Enterprise 2007. Does not matter how many time system is started or
what applications are opened on the system. If it is a MS office program it
start the configuration Process.
Fund several posts but no fixes.
Any help pointing in the correct direction would be appreciated.

Hi David,

It is mostly caused that the current user account doesn't have permission on the Office registry key. Follow the steps below to see if it works.

#1
========
Login as a local administrator account on the computer.
Start the Microsoft office 2007 applications (word 2007, excel 2007, powerpoint 2007).
If the configuration pops up, wait it to be finished.
Logoff and logon your user account. Test the issue. What is the result?

If it doesn't work, go to next step.

#2
=======
1. Log on to the computer by using an Administrator user account.
2. Click Start > Run > type regedit, click OK.
3. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0
4. Click Permissions.
5. Click Users (Computer_name\Users), and then click to select the Allow check box for the Full Control permission.
6. Click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
7. Start an Office program. Wait for the configurating finished. Restart the application. What is the result?

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I was able to get the machine to function again by removing the ms office
2007 programs and reinstalling the 2003 office professional. the only
problem I have now before I can continue with your recommendations to
install office 2007 is I have a office Project 2007 installation that is
corrupt and will not uninstall, I get the message "Set up errors" " This
product installation has been corrupted. Run setup again from the CD, DVD or
other original installation Source." I did this and get a second
installation of office Project 2007 in the add remove/programs. need to get
the corrupt installation out ? At this point I have removed all
installations of MS office Enterprise 2007 and removed all but the corrupt
installation of Project 2007. I have reinstalled my previous versions of
Office 2003 Professional so the machine would function for Monday.
What would be my next step to correct the corrupt installation of MS Project
2007.
Then I can correct the registry entry and reinstall everything.
Thanks for the reply and sorry about the double post, was not sure where I
might get the proper response for this concern.

Hi David,

I understand that you are unable to remove a corrupted Project 2007 installation on the computer. Go to the following KB article to download
the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and then run it to delete the Project 2007 related installers (there might be several entries related project
2007, delete them all via the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility).

KB:290301 Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;290301

Test the issue again.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Downloaded and ran the "Windows Install Cleaner Utility" It did say that it
was *** NOTE: The Windows Installer Clean Up Utility should not be used to
remove the 2007 Microsoft Office System installation information. *** It did
however removed Project 2007 from the list that it shows but did not remove
it from the sdd remove programs list. That is as far as I have gone so far,
seems my 2003 and 2007 accounting are still functioning normally.
Thanks,

Hi David,

Yes, we don't recommend to use the Windows Installer cleanup utility to unintsall Office 2007. It is because that Office 2007 installation is
based on multiple *.msi files which we will find multiple installer in the cleanup utility.

Regard this case, as you cannot uninstall project 2007, we can use this tool to remove all the installers related to Project 2007 to see if it
works. The Project entry in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs may not removed.

According to your description, it seems that Office 2003, Office 2007, and Project 2007 is working fine now. Am I correct?

If you would like to remove the redundant entry - Project 2007 from Add or Remove Programs list, click the redundant entry - Project 2007.
Does it prompt you this entry is not exist? If so, confirm it. Does it remove the entry? If not, let's just ignore it.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

When I click on the entry for Project 2007 in the controll panel it tells me
I have a corrupt installation and to reinstall with the original disks or
resource, I did that once befor and that is how this whole mess started.

Hi David,

Do you mean that it still says "a corrupt installation" after you use the cleanup utility to remove Project 2007?

Create a new Administartor account on the computer. And then try to remove the corrupted Project 2007 again. If you are still unable remove
it, ignore it. Install Office 2007. Start Word 2007 to wait for the configuration process finishes. Restart Word 2007. What is the result?

If the configuration process doesn't pop up again, please also start other applications (Excel 2007, powerpoint 2007, and etc) to finish the
configuration.

Log off and then log on your original user account. Test the issue again and let me know the result.

Hi David,

Nice to hear that the Office 2007 configuration issue has been fixed!

I understand that there are still other 2 issues: BCM for Outlook cannot be loaded properly. Project 2007 installation issue.

Generally, we answer one question per post in the newsgroups. In order to concentrate fully on each of these problems we ask that you post
them as separate threads. That way each issue can receive full attention from the Support Professional to whom it is assigned. This will also
make the thread more clear and consistent for your reference. Please feel free to open different posts for these questions in the Outlook BCM
newsgroup (Microsoft.public.outlook.bcm) and the Project newsgroup (Microsoft.public.project). We will be very glad to work with you.

At this moment, I'd like to deliver to you with a simple summary of the original issue for your reference:

ARCR
***********
A (Action): open any office 2007 application
R (Result): the Office configuration dialog box always pops up
C (Cause): corrupted office installation
R (Resolution): login as administrator and then uninstall/reinstall Office 2007.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is always my pleasure to be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Emily Lin,
