Office Professional 2007 trial

I have Office Professional 2007 60 day trial preinstalled on my new laptop
running Vista Professional. I'm coming close to the end of the trial period,
and would like to convert to a fully operational version. However, I only
need Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint, not the full suite offered in
Professional. Would I be able to purchase online a key for Office Standard
and convert my trial to Office Standard, enabling only the four features I
need? I'm trying to save money, and purchasing a key for Professional would
mean paying for features that I don't need.

No
You would need to uninstall the trial, reboot your PC then install the
version you purchased from cd
(Buying from many retailers, eg Amazon, is generally cheaper than
buying/converting a download from MS, in edition you get the actual cd)

Conversion between suites is not possible. You will have to remove the
Professional trial and install a full or upgrade version of Standard. If
you are a student or plan non-commercial use you could purchase Home and
Student plus Outlook for much less than Standard. If you are a student with
a ".edu" email you could qualify for Ultimate Steal. Prices on Amazon are
better than directly from Microsoft. Shop around first...
