Onenote 2007 freezes after clicking on pen

I am using Onenote on a non-tablet computer, using a mouse/trackball/
drawing tablet for input. When I try to click on the pen to draw
something, Onenote freezes for about 30sec, then the pen function is
completely disabled until the next reboot of the program. I can still
type things and move stuff around, just the pen function is disabled.
I have tried a repair install but that did not help. Any tips for
fixing this?

solution - ATI catalyst was giving problems, so got rid of it.
