Outline numbering using hyperlinks

Kim

Hello,

This is my first time. Be easy with me!

I have created a document that has a style for outline numbering. This is
like my 'main' document. This document contains text from other documents,
that I copied and pasted special as a hyperlink, rtf and maintaining the
link. This is so that if the 'other documents' are updated my 'main'
document is updated with changes.

The problem is that the automatic numbering continues throughout my 'main'
document and I want it to restart at each area. I try restarting the
numbering within the 'other' documents but this does not retain when it's
hyperlinked over to my 'main' document.

I don't want to have to restart numbering in each section of my 'main'
document as once one of my 'other' documents changes it will have to be
restarted.

Wow..I hope that makes sense and someone can give me some suggestions.

Thanks!

Using fixed (typed in) numbers in your source documents would be the easiest
solution. Here's how to do that for each of those documents: Press Alt+F11
to open the Visual Basic Editor. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate
window. Type

ActiveDocument.ConvertNumbersToText

and press Enter.

Auto numbering will be replaced with typed numbers. Of course, if you
applied numbering via styles, the numbering still exists as part of the
style definitions. To get rid of it completely, you would have to clear it
from the styles as well.
