HELP! I was having font issues and stupid me did the detect and repair but
clicked the box to set back to default and all my email disappeared -
everything. I've been online for 2 hours trying to figure out - got most of
my stuff back (not exactly how I want but beggars can't be choosers) but now
my mail won't send and receive. When I click on S & R settings it says "The
operation failed. An object could not be found".. HELP, please

In Control Panel, start the Mail applet and click Show Profiles. I suspect
you'll see two mail profiles. Select your old one in the "Always use this
profile" drop-down. If that doesn't work, write back.

Brian,
thanks but no. When I opened Outlook after the disaster it brought up the
default email profile and that's the only one that shows there. Also, my
address book is GONE. I appreciate your help.

The post stated to use the *Mail Applet in the Control Panel*, nothing about
opening Outlook

I understand the post and I did what Brian suggested and it only had the
default profile - ONE profile - it's the same one that when I tried to
recover outlook - it was the one that came up as default. I realize that you
deal with a lot of neophytes but I only post something when I've exhausted
EVERYTHING i can find online.

if you click on the contacts folder, do you see your contacts? if so...
If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible
when you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

If you are using Outlook 2007 and the the checkbox is grayed, you'll need to
make a new profile as you can't add the Outlook Address Book service due to
a bug.

Thanks Diane - I'm able to see my contacts but they still don't come into my
address book...I can deal with that later since at least they seem to be
there. My more immediate problem (especially before work on Monday) is I
cannot send and receive in my main pop mailbox. I've set up the mailbox
right as far as I can tell as they test messages are getting to my server (I
can access my mailbox thru internet), however when I try to send and receive
it tells me "the operation failed. An object could not be found". I
appreciate y'all's help!

y contact list nDiane,

Thanks. This helped me with the same problem. My Contacts are now
accessible when I click on the To button. However, not immediately.

When I click on the To button, the Select Names dialog box comes up, as
expected, but no Contacts are listed. On the top right, there is a Show
Names from the: drop down list. It defaults to Personal Address Book, but
when I click the drop down arrow, below it it lists Outlook Address Book,
then below that and indented a little is Contact list. When I select that,
my Contact list appears and all is well. How can I make that list populate
the Select Names box right away (and save a few clicks)?

Well, then, use the Data Files button to reconnect the old PST.
