Outlook 2007 Crash -McAfee Total Protection For Small Business

S

Safety Man

Sumary: Problems with McAfee Total Protection for Small Business and
Microsoft Office 2007. Outlook 2007 keeps crashing when a new email arrives
at my inbox.

I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE PROBLEM: Please respond if anyone has a work
around.....I would like to start using office 2007 with out the below
problem. The only option I have right now is to unistall the mcafee agent
and add my ip address to the "do not require virus protection" list. This
problem is consistent on at least 3 computers for a small network of 50
computers (I stop testing after I duplicated the problem on 3 computers).

DIAGNOSTIC STEPS .................................

to duplicate this scenario: I sent an email from a yahoo account to my
company's email account and attempted to receive the message through outlook.
Every attempt crashed outlook 2007. I also used 3 different computers and 3
different exchange email accounts. I also used cached mode and non-cached
mode. ADOBE ACROBAT WAS NOT INSTALLED ON ANY OF THE COMPUTERS.

In summary: The Scan engine for McAfee keeps crashing my outlook 2007
program.
It crashes every time I recieve a new email message. When I disabled the
Mcafee agent using the computer manager>services.....Outlook 2007 stop
crashing upon receiving email messages. When I uninstalled Mcafee agent
using add/remove programs ....outlook 2007 stop crashing upon receiving email
messages. One more thing: This does not happen with Outlook 2003 on the other
47 client computers.

Question: Is Mcafee going to post a new version to their
Scan Engine which is compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2007.

Does it crash if you disable email scanning? if so, you can leave it
installed - if not, uninstall mcafee or use outlook 2003 or call them and
see if the hotfix works for this version too.

I've been having the same issue, but with only one machine.

I've just gotten off the phone with McAfee Tech Support. Total Protection
currently does have this issue and the update that fixes it should be out in
March, 2007. (Currently, that version of Total Protection is in beta.)

If you're able to use it in your environment, their VirusScan Enterprise
8.5.0i does not produce this issue.
