Outlook shows unread files in Inbox but they are not there!

Outlook shows the number of unread messages in boldface in Favorite
Folders/Inbox column on left, but they are not shown on the right. Sometimes
they appear days later. Rebooting and restarting don't help. Should I
reinstall Outlook?
