Overwriting published projects

ann

We have a requirement to overwrite our published projects each week.
The following post addressed this question-

http://groups.google.co.uk/groups?h...er&selm=e774cxbVCHA.3764%40tkmsftngp08&rnum=2

"First you must create a version in Project Server. Do this from the
Manage Enterprise Options menu in Project Server logged on as an
Admin. Then checkout the existing version of the plan and do a save as
and choose your new version. This will record an as-is record of the
plan under the version name. Then, with the plan still checked out,
open the new version that you would like to publish and save it to
Project Server as the published version. After this you can check the
new published version in by choosing file close."

I followed the above instructions, but I continue to get 'You cannot
overwrite a published project' error. Can anyone please help??

Thanks!

You cannot promote an alternate Version of a project and make it the
Published version. The alternate versions are meant to be like "snapshots"
of the project at a particular point in time. If you have an alternate
Version that needs to become the Published version, then do the following:

1. Open the alternate version of the project in Microsoft Project
Professional
2. Save the alternate version as an .mpp file
3. Ask your Project Server administrator to delete all versions of the
project from the Project Server database
4. Import the alternate version into Project Server in Microsoft Project
Professional using Tools - Enterprise Options - Import Project to Enterprise

This will make the alternate version of the project the Published version.
You should always make changes to your Published version as it is the
production version of your project, and then do File - Save As to save
alternate Versions. Hope this helps.
