pdf file not registered

This question is in the archives but was never answered. Maybe I'll have
better luck!

I would like to hyperlink to a pdf file on one of my slides. I am using
PowerPoint 2007. After creating the hyperlink when I try to open the file I
get the message "No program is registered to open this file.
Can anyone tell me what I should do to register Adobe with PPT so I can open
the hyperlink?

When I double click on a pdf file in Windows Explorer, the pdf file opens
fine. Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have either the full version of Acrobat or the Acrobat reader on your
system? You may want to look her for a solution

Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

I created the hyperlink 2 different ways. I highlighted some text on the
page, clicked on the action button and entered a link to a pdf file. When I
ran show in preview mode, I get the usual warning about the dangers of
opening up a "strange" file and then it tells me that there is no program
registered to open this file.

This is when it gets interesting. When I try the optional method of adding a
pdf link as an object (NOT my preferred way to do it) and run the show in
preview mode, the pdf file opens up fine. When I published the show to a CD
and ran it, however, I get the same warning that there is no program registed
to open this file. This happens on different computers.

There is no problem opening pdf's in Windows Explorer. I have the most
recent version of the Adobe Acrobat reader. This is the link I use:
Need%20to%20Know%20pdf%20files\American%20Dream.pdf

Any ideas?

Dennis

Steve,

I highlight the phrase I want to link with the left mouse button. I then
left-click the Action button under the Insert tab. On the Mouse Click tab I
click on the hyperlink button and click on other file. I find that file and
left click on it to have it display in the box next to the button. I then
click the okay button on the bottom of the page. I run the program in
slideshow from the current page. When I click on the hypertext link it
provides a pop-up window that provides the link I entered earlier than tells
me many files can have viruses and am I sure I want to open this link. When I
say yes, another pop-up says there is no program registered to run this file.

Your warning about spaces in the files makes sense (although it hasn’t been
a problem with any other MS program) but the same thing happens when I use
one-word files.
