PDF image Insert

I know this has been a topic in the past- but does not seem as it has
been addressed recently.

We had our students purchase OneNote.

However, most of our documents are distributed in pdf. Now I am trying
to "insert as picture" the pdf image- so they can take notes on
articles, etc.

1) Per some instruction I saw on the web- I printed the PDF to the
Microsoft Office Document Image Writer and saved it as an .mdi file.

However, when I go to Insert | document as picture- .mdi files are not
an option for me to select (in fact the mdi files are not even visible
from this view).

2) Has someone created a workaround to insert pdf as an image? Seems
like there was once a powertoy- but that link is dead.

Thanks

Hi Myles,

Are you and your students using OneNote on tablets or not? If you are
using it on tablets, you can get the Microsoft Education Pack:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/tabletpc/educationpack/default.mspx
The Education Pack include the Send to OneNote 2003 PowerToy you were
referring to. This PowerToy will allow you to simply print your PDF to a
printer called Send to OneNote 2003 and the printouts will be inserted
as images into OneNote. It won't install on a non Tablet PC though. Keep
in mind that all you need is one tablet PC, as you can use the powertoy
on it and then distribute the OneNote section/page.
For what it's worth: OneNote 2007 will include a similar printer for all
operating systems. I know it's not much help to you, but I thought it's
worthwhile pointing out. OneNote 2007 is currently in a public beta and
you can download it from Microsoft. However, notes created in 2007
cannot be used in 2003. So you can't use 2007 as a workaround to get the
pdfs into OneNote for your students.

MPG,

You may want to change the option to save as "tif" in the properties of
MODI. Then when you Insert in ON, the "tif" format is supported in the file
type dropdown box. You may have to experiment with "tif vs tiff" if you
have multiple page PDFs.

Hope this helps,

Fritz
