Portfolio Analyzer, Availability field issue

I have seen other users post regarding this issue but have not seen a
possible resolution through my searches. Basically to quote another
user :

"When I insert the 'Availability' field on portfolio analyzer views
where we
have "Resource" and "Projects" as Row Fields, many projects are
displayed
under a resource's name that they are not assigned to or even on the
project
team. If I remove the Availability field, then only the projects that
resources have assignments in are displayed under their names."

This behavior started after we updated Project Server 2003 with SP2a
and it has degraded the performance of the views to an unacceptable
level due to the sheer number of projects being displayed per
resource.

Does anyone know of a fix for this issue? Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks much,
A Frustrated PMO

Hi Jax,

I dont believe that this is an issue. The reaon why every resource is
displayed with the Availability field is because each resource actually has
availability. Thats why your Portfolio Anlyser shows all resources when you
chose the Availability.

I hope this makes sense ( at least technically - I am not suggeting that it
makes business sense :) )

Hi Marc,
Thanks for your quick response, I appreciate it! I see your point
about each resource having availability. That part makes good sense.
It is unfortunate that when I add "Projects" as a column next to
"Resources" and expand it to see work, actual work, and availability
for the projects that the resource has been assigned, what is actually
displayed now is not only the projects the resource has been assigned
on but other projects that have nothing to do with the resource. What
appears to be happening is that all projects related to the pool of
resources that I have chosen to report on in my view display for each
resource regardless of wheather the resource has an assignment or not
on the project. Because the view is returning all these redundant
projects rows where there is no work or actual work for the resource,
the view takes upwards of 3 minutes to display if it displays at all.
This behavior was not present when we were on SP1 for Project Server
2003 and the portfolio views worked wonderfuly then.

I will keep working with the views to see if I can eliminate the
display of projects for a resource when no assignemt has been made so
I can get the views to work in a resonable time frame. Again, I
really appreciate your input, Thanks again!

Hi Jax,

I recently installed sp2a and experienced the same issue!

In my case the resource field was in the filter section of the view and the
project field in the row field section. I selected only one resource, but to
my surprise all projects were shown.

By putting the resource field in the row field section (in front of the
project field), I got the same result, but without showing all the projects,
but only those projects that the selected resource was assigned to.

Hope this helps....

John
