PowerPoint X formatting and styles

Hi gang, I'm having some issues with PowerPoint X, and was hoping you could
lend some suggestions. It started with some re-draw issues. When I had a
text box, and was moving it up or down, it was leaving a strange xxxx
pattern where the box used to be. This happened on numerous text boxes I
tried to move.

I restarted PP, no help. I then restarted the computer, no help. I next
re-installed Office X. I didn't do the reinstall first. I instead deleted
the PP settings and preferences in the pref folder, then moved over a new
copy. I ran the office updaters to 10.1.5.

This caused another batch of issues. Mainly, when I copy and paste a slide
from and old document into a new blank one, odd things happen. For one,
there are lots of color changes. Secondly, shapes that have been drawn are
broken or oddly shaped. For example, and arrow w/ and arrowhead will display
the line broken at the arrowhead, and the head is turned a different angle.
Cirlcles are now ovals when pasted into the new document.

Also, when comparing a previously created document with a new one (after the
re-install), the size of the slides are different. With both presentations
open, and set at 100%, the slides in the 'new' document are noticeably
bigger.

One thing I did notice is the design template on the formatting palate. The
previous documents have 'blush' listed as the formatting palate. The new
ones have the palate 'new document'. I figure this has much to do with the
color changes. I tried to switch the template in the new document to Blush,
but it didn't even exist!

What am I missing? Can anyone help? Thanks for reading this.

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately it sounds to me like you have parts of office that are updated
trying to interact with parts that didn't get updated.

Instead of re-installing, run the remove office utility that's provided on
the installation CD. Then run the install program, install any additional
components from the value pack, then install the appropriate updates, then
run Disk Utility First Aid to repair permissions. The order is important.

I have the same issues with PwrPnt'04 on Panther. Did the reinstall, and...
"fix permissions"? Ok.. Fine.. That's done.. Still the same XXXXX ghost of
where the text box boundries used to be. It seems like PwrPnt'04 it just
simply NOT updating the GUI often enough. Slow, slugish, weird displays
issues everywhere... (hmmm... Keynote anyone?)

Try turning off the ruler (View -> Ruler).
