On OneNote 2007 I used a PowerToy calle OneNote Daily Jounal and it has served
me well on a daily basis and I've come to depend on it.. It seems to have
been pulled from the web for some time now.

I just recently started testing Office 2010 (2007 is still on the system
as well). When I launch the daily journal it opens OneNote 2007 instead of
OneNote 2010 although Office 2010 is the default. Office 2007 programs only
lauch when specifcally selected, elsewise the system always uses Office 2010
applications. There is no option that would allow me to change the OneNote
Daily Journal so I guess it's hard coded.

Are there any programmers out there that are using the journal that could
find a way to change this so that it works with OneNote 2010?

Questions about the OneNote 2010 beta should be posted in one of the
appropriate beta groups.
Other than that, try uninstalling OneNote 2007 and repairing the beta
installation. Does that fix it?

Hello Ilya,

Thanks for th quick reply. The problem doesn't seem to be with OneNote 2010.
The problem seems to be that the PowerToy is looking for OneNote in Office
12. I unloaded Office 2007 and the PowerToy does nothing. Reinstalling Office
2007 and the PowerToy opened OneNote 2007 again.

Glad to hear that the tool works again!

FWIW:
I searched around and found the following:
The PowerToy is still available for downloading. Description with link

For the usage under ON2007 see Daniel Escapa's blog "Fix for Daily
Journal in OneNote 2007"

P.S. If any other issues with PowerToys and ON2010 we should discuss
that in Connectnews (where I saw several postings if yours)

Nevertheless, if something works in OneNote 2007 and doesn't work in
OneNote 2010, it is likely a bug in OneNote 2010 that is breaking
compatibility.

After looking at the links, I seem to remember that the DailyJournal
uses the OneNote 2003 extensibility API. This API was discontinued in
OneNote 2010, which would explain why the DailyJournal ceases to
function when OneNote 2007 is no longer installed.

Hello Rainald,

That's probraby the case. As a work around, since for the time being at least,
I have set OneNote 2010 to look at the same location on my network drive
that OneNote 2007 stores the Jounal files. I'll just launch OneNote Daily
Journal, allow it to create the tabs and make my entries in OneNote 2007.
Later, if I need to read and/or edit my Journal notes I can do it in OneNote
2010.

Thanks for funding the links on the web. One was for version 1.01, which
is what I had installed, and the other was 1.1 which I installed after your
message.

Thanks,
Michael

Seems to be a workable solution.

But do not wonder should the problem re-appear and ON2010 take over
again.
On my system after initial problems for quite a while 2007 was "ruling"
(even the icon in the InfoTray called ON2007 and screen-clippings went
there) but since a few days 2010 gas taken over power again :-( :-(

Thanks for the feedback. I'll checked the links again and changed my

P.S. When checking your postings in the "Msconnect" NG I saw that you
obviously the Connect groups via the web-interface.
Why don't you use a NewsReader?
The web-interface IMO is just terrible and would not be able to *work*
with it.

Hello Rainald,

I also prefer newsgroups to web forums. How can I locate and connect to
the Msconnect newsgroups?

Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/office/messageboards/community.aspx
Click on the button "Set password for newsgroup" and set a password.
Note your User-ID and the password.

Then wait a while, the process of verification may take a couple of
hours.

In your newsreader create an account for "connectnews.microsoft.com".
Enter the log-on data (User-ID and Password).

That's all ;-)

Have fin with the NGs.
