problem with the "from" field of some contacts

Hello,

I have a problem with the content of the field "from" that entourage shows in some cases.

For example, all the messages from one of my job mates allways have the field "from" set as "<Rubio Antequera>" (the simbols <> are shown). When I open the message and click in the name, entourage shows me an empty contact card (with no email address) and the name is set as "<Rubio" and the surname is set as "Antequera>". It seems like entourage doesn't link the "from" field with my contact for that person.
If I click in reply, Entourage creates an empty message with two addresses, one has the symbol "?" in colour green and the label "<Rubio Antequera>" (and if i click in that name it has not an email address) and another that is the correct contact name with the correct email address.

I have my email account configured as IMAP and if i use the mail.app client for the same account, the same messages are shown correct and Mail.app recognizes my contact from my address book and uses the correct name in the “from” field.

I use Exchange server 2007 as a mail server.

Can I do something to achieve that entourage manages the field from and the email addresses correctly?

Thanks a lot!

If you add the contact to your Address Book using command-option-C, do you
see the <> around the name? If yes, this is the way that person has his name
listed. There is nothing you can do about that. You can fix it for your
Address Book but not for mail received. I've had a few people over the years
that did something odd like this too. You might point it out to him. He
might not be aware his mail is being received like this.

thanks for your response.

I don't understand "command-option-C". What convination of keys have i to use?
On the other side, the curious thing is that in Mail.app it seems to work
better. I say better and not good because I have a similar problem when i try
to reply the message. Mail.app also generates two address for that contact,
one correct and another has an empty address. I think is something related
with using "," and ";". Is it possible? The name that shows outlook in the pc
of my collegue has the format "Name, surname". Maybe entourage has problems
with ","?

Thanks for your help. I really apreciate it!

"command-option-C" means press and hold the "command" key (the one with the
cloverleaf and/or apple), and the option key (labeled "option" and "alt" on
current Apple keyboards), then press the "c" key while still holding down
the other two.

hello

it doesn't work. the combination "command-option-c" doesn't type anything.

On the other hand, has entourage problems managing "," or ";"? In my ompany's Active Directory we use the format "surname, name". And when I receive an email, it seems like entourage thinks that there are two addresses, one for the part before "," and another for the other side of the ",".

Thanks in advance!

it doesn't work. the combination "command-option-c" doesn't type anything.

When you have a message selected and use the shortcut Command-Option-C, it
either opens a window to add the contact to your Address Book or opens the
contact for you if it was already entered. Much like Command-N opens a new
message or window.
On the other hand, has entourage problems managing "," or ";"? In my ompany's

When you enter an address in the Entourage contact window, there is a field
for the last name and the first name. You don't use the , or ; to separate
the name in the same field.

I have a problem with the content of the field "from" that entourage
shows in some cases.

For example, all the messages from one of my job mates allways have
the field "from" set as "<Rubio Antequera>" (the simbols <> are
shown). When I open the message and click in the name, entourage
shows me an empty contact card (with no email address) and the name
is set as "<Rubio" and the surname is set as "Antequera>". It seems
like entourage doesn't link the "from" field with my contact for that
person. If I click in reply, Entourage creates an empty message with
two addresses, one has the symbol "?" in colour green and the label
"<Rubio Antequera>" (and if i click in that name it has not an email
address) and another that is the correct contact name with the
correct email address.

The format is wrong.

E-mail convention is that anything between < and > is suppose to be an
E-mail address such as "(e-mail address removed)".

Therefore, if what you have is:

<Rubio Antequera>

then Entourage correctly assumes this is a first and last name because
it's not in the correct format for an E-mail address.

The correct format for presenting the display name along with the E-mail
address is:

Rubio Antequera <[email protected]>

or, if your Active Directory system presents the display name as "Last,
First" with a comma then quotes must surround the display name:

"Antequera, Rubio" <[email protected]>

Hope this helps!
