Problem with Visio 4.0 to 2000

Recently got a new pc at work. Having trouble accessing my visio files.

The desktop icon starts visio 4.0, but can't open the files saying they were
created on a newer version of Visio. I expected that and got my visio 2000
cd to try to install the upgrade. It asks for a product key, I enter it and
then says there is not an older version to upgrade from or to enter the
serial number of the older version.

I do not have a serial number for 4.0 I have the CD and the sleeve it came
in, but there is no serial number or product key on it.

I need my files and my company is too cheap to buy a new version. Can
anyone help me make this work? Please?

Visio 4.0, 4.1 don't qualify for upgrade, you need the full product. I have
4.1 and had to pop for a new version of Visio. The new pc has V4 on it? You
can use the Visio Viewer to look at the files, but that won't help with
editting.

That's the thing - about 5 years ago, my last new computer had 4.0 on it.
The 2000 upgrade was acquired and installed over the 4.0. I have been using
the 2000 on the computer I was using 2 months ago. That's why the 4.0 on my
desktop says the files were created on a newer version and can't be opened.

The 4.0 must have come over with the windows utility to copy from my old
machine to the new one, not sure why the 2000 version didn't come over.

I think I'll try to find my old pc before it gets wiped clean to see if I
can retrieve all the Visio from it since it doesn't look like it all got
copied to the new one.

I just thought since I had the cds that I could do the same thing that must
have been done 5 years ago when 2000 version was used for upgrade.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense - it's a pain and I may not be describing
well.

Found solution, though couldn't see how to edit my previous post.

Installing VISIO 2000 from the full blown CD (that I didn't know we had)
worked. Who know why I had the upgrade CD since it definitely does not work.
Still need to look at my old computer to make sure I got all the drawings I
had there.

Thanks WapperDude for your response.
