Project Leveling PS2007

I am using PS2007 SP2 Feb CU

We level multiple project schedules on a weekly bases. In PS2003, the
leveling took no longer than approx 20min for 15 projects (leveling from
current week to 6mo out). In 2007 those same projects level for about two
hours. Has anyone had this problem? Any idea what the difference is between
the two versions that would cause such delay?

Any difference between the leveling settings? More resources and
assignments? Are these the exact same schedules?

Hi Gary,

Yes exact same projects (13 of them) migrated from 2003 dev to 2007 dev. No
changes made to either environments.

Settings are the same. we have a handy "leveling macro" that opens all the
projects and records the finish dates before and after leveling. the same
macro is saved in a local .mpp as both 2003 and 2007 format. I level
manually and it does the same thing. This has been driving me nuts :(

my pc has a 3ghz processer, when i leveled on a new laptop with a dual core
cpu it was a little faster. not much though. I just dont understand what in
2007 is using that much CPU.

Some things you can do is rinse the projects in XML, and/or force a binary
rebuild on the projects to eliminate the possibility of file corruption
and/or bloat respectively. The other issue might be the Macro as VBA is not
a perfect platform and is known to leak memory. I think it might be worth a
shot watching what happens to the RAM on your desktop when you run this guy.

I am not sure what you mean by this or how to approach.

I have monitored the memory and it doesnt seem to use that much at all when
i use the macro or with i level manually. both methods max out my CPU. I
would like to try your first suggestion though I have no idea of what you
mean. Also which environment, 2003 or 2007.

Thanks so much for your help.

Just a wild shot in the dark, is the calculation mode set the same on 2003
and 2007? I would also check all of the other setting within Tools | Options.
