Project web Access thru Linux

Quick question: my firm is in the process of rolling out Project Server. Many
of our users use Linux / Firefox to go to the internet. Will they be able to
use full functionality of Project Web Access, especially Time Sheet entry and
task updates?

Replies much appreciated,

There are ways around this, not to avoid the use of ActiveX as you do need
this but to give you workarounds that allow your staff to stay on Linux and
still use Project Server.

Option 1: Use virtualisation. Run VMWare on Linux or Virtual Server on
Windows and access IE7 on a Windows image.

Option 2: Remote Access. Remote Desktop from Linux into a Windows box to use
IE7.

Option 3: Virtualisation + Remote Acces: Something like Citrix (XenApp on a
Windows box, client on the Linux box).

Team members might be able to access Project Server without the need for
ActiveX, but Project Managers and anyone requiring GANTT views or any of the
Project Web Parts are going to need to have that ActiveX installed.

Finally, if it's just a preference for Firefox and you also have Windows
users, consider using the IEtab extension for Firefox as it allows IE7 to run
invisibly under Firefox.

Linux doesn't have to be a dead end when using Project Server, but it will
mean that you will have to cater for that scenario and give the users access
to IE7 on Windows somehow. There is no way around using ActiveX, but there
are ways around how to give IE7 access to the users.
