PS2007 Task Update not working

M

Mike Mahoney

A number of users have submitted a variety of updates including new tasks.
These were approved and MSP prompted to load the updates into the plan. The
plan however was not updated.
The Applied Task Update Requests and Errors clearly show the updates
accepted. The Manage Queue page shows no errors.
However the event log has the following error:

We are in the process of dumping the approval page into excel so we can
manually retrieve these situations, however we are losing a lote of notes and
credibility with Team Members

One identified cause of this issue is bad data in the assignment contour
causing an
infinite loop during rescheduling. The assignment with the bad data need not
be
any of the assignments being updated. It maybe identifiable in Project
Professional
2007 by comparing the data in Task Usage and looking at the totals on the
left hand
pane - with the total of timephased entries in the right hand pane. For
example there maybe
a 100% complete tasks that show 15h in the left pane but
only a total of 8h in the right hand pane.

If the bad data is identified and corrected in Project Professional 2007 and
then
saved and published then preview will work and updates can be processed.

To correct use the task usage view and zero all data for the assignment
(left hand
and right hand pane) and then re-enter through the timephased view and
ensure the
left and right hand totals are the same.

That's a useful observation. We have had a range of problems
publishing data and always comes down to an assignment issue. My debug
approach has been to change the task publish setting to "No" on a line
by line basis to identify the problem task /assignment. This is a
painfully slow method.

Thanks

Mike
