public key infrastructure :: MS Project Server 2003

Luis

I am trying to setup MS Project Server to use PKI. The users accessing the
projects via the MS Project Server 2003 portal are able to view and modify
their task with no issues. However, my project managers responsible for
creating the project plans using MS Project Professional 2003 are not able to
connect to the project server once I enable IIS to require client
certificates.

Is MS Project Server 2003 built for a PKI environment?

Luis,

As for as I know there should be no issue with certs (Not really sure on
PKI). I have used them (certs). Have you configured the proxy?
If not check out page 210 of the "Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
Installation Guide" Available here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=20233

Let me know if that works I'll be happy to do some research if you need more
help :).

The SSL certificate has been set up and is not the issue. The issue I
believe is when a users tries to connect to the project server via MS Project
Professional 2003 and IIS is configured to require the client certificate
(This is the cert coming of the users Common Access Card not the SSL
cetificate.) There is no way for the user to pass in their PIN in order for
Active Card Gold/Tumbleweed to verify that the client certificate is valid.
If a resource tries to access the Project Server via the Project Server
Portal, they are prompted for their pin, they enter it, the client
certificate is validated and the user is authenicated.

Please note, under the Autentication Methods in IIS, all the check boxes are
unchecked. Also, under the Secure Communications, (if you click the edit
button) the check box requiring client certificates is checked.

The issue I am having is directly relating to passing in the users pin in
order for the certificate to be decrypted and validated. All the other
settings on IIS are solid. I have a feeling the MS Project Professional 2003
is not set up to communicate with a MS Project Server that has been
CAC-enabled (Requesting Client Certificates.)

Regards,

Luis
