PWA 2003: Actual work fields are read only

Adrienne

I am new to MS Project Support. I'm currently working on an issue where
within a PWA 2003 project, all of the actual work fields appear as read-only.

No actuals have been entered into the plan. The project admin states that he
did not approve the timesheet. In Admin - Customize Project Web Access, I
changed the setting from “Hours of work done per day or per week …†to
“Actual work done and work remaining …†and also changed a time period
setting to “Resources should report their hours worked every day â€. That did
not solve the problem.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Dale,

Thanks very much for your quick response. However, even after going through
the following steps, nothing has changed:

1. Open an enterprise project.

2. Click Collaborate > Publish > Republish Assignments and then click the
OK button.

3. Save and close the project.

Do you have any other steps to suggest?

Thanks again,

Adrienne

Do you want the Actual Work and Remaining Work columns on the left side of
the page unlocked for editing, or do you want the Actual Work cells in the
timesheet grid unlocked for editing? And how many projects are there
currently in your Project Server database? Let us know.

No. You need to select the "Hours of work done per day or per week" method
of tracking and then you need to ask your project managers to republish the
assignments for EVERY project in the system using Collaborate - Publish -
Republish Assignments. NOTE: This method will only change the timesheet
grid for unstarted tasks. Any task that is currently in-progress will
continue to use the old method of tracking until it is done. Hope this
helps.

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks very much for all of your help
with this question.

Dale,
I saw this posting and do have a need to add an additional editable field to
the left side of the page unlocked for editing. This field would be used for
a business charge code.
Thanks, Michael

Dale, thanks for the response. This is so close to working as I need it to now.
Here is my scenario. A user creates a new task using PWA and needs to enter
both the hours and the charge code (enterprise task 20). When the user
creates the new task in PWA the charge code does not show as editable. Even
when user entered hours the charge code stays non-editable. It is not until
the project manager accepts hours that the charge code will become editable -
which is too late as we need the charge code # when the task is posted to the
project during the accept.

The software's assumption, I believe, is that a user should not be able to
update custom enterprise field information until AFTER the PM approves the
New Task request. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is any way to work
around the issue you have. Hope this helps.

That was my fear - I appreciate your insight and I will probably not chase it
much farther.
You are a tremendous asset to the discussion group - I appreciate your
participation.

This fact prevents several business scenarios.
In my company we also to need to attach a code to a task request before
submitting it to approval.
However, it is Project Server 2007.
