PWA 2003 - modify fields in existing view.

Sarah

The Project Centre-Summary view has previously been modified to include 2
Enterprise Project Outline Codes as columns in the view. They corresponded
to 2 fields - Project Supervisor and Project Director. These fields have
since been changed to Enterprise Project Text fields (this was acheived by
removing all the values in the lookup codes and renaming the outline code to
blank, followed by renaming an Enterprise Project Text field appropriately).
The users are aware they will need to reenter the data into the new Text
fields.

The process I took to modify the Summary view was Admin, Manage Views, click
the view and then "Modify". At first look the old fields were still showing
in the "Displayed fields" - but they didn't have a name in brackets
afterwards eg Enterprise Project Outline Code3. I removed the 2 old outline
codes and then added the 2 new fields eg Enterprise Project Text4 (Project
Director) and Enterprise Project Text5 (Project Supervisor). Saved the
changes.

When I view the projects using this view, the Enterprise Project Text fields
don't have Project Director and Project Supervisor as the column names - they
have Enterprise Project Text4 and Enterprise Project Text5. What do I need
to do to have the field name shown? From some testing I've done with other
Enterprise fields I just need to add them to the view and PWA shows the
custom name. Is it because they have the same "name" as the old Outline
fields?

Thanks in advance!!

Here's what you need to do:

1. Launch Project Professional 2003 and connect to Project Server with
administrator permissions.
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global.
3. Click the Fields tab.
4. In the list on the right side (in the Enterprise Global), DELETE the
Enterprise Project Outline Codes you used previously.
5. Click the Close button.
6. Save and close the Enterprise Global file.

In step #4 above, you did not correctly remove these fields using the
process you described. You must use the above steps to completely remove
these fields. To resolve your issue that the correct field names do not
appear in the PWA view, you need to ask your PMs to open each one of their
projects and to click Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan or Collaborate -
Publish - All Information. This action forces the fields to show their
correct names. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I think I'm missing something ... I can't find anywhere to Delete the
Enterprise Proejct Outline Codes when editing the EGT. I'm using MPS 2003 -
is that the difference? I can't see a delete option anywhere.

To recap the process:
In MS Project Professional 2003 client
Tools -> Enterprise Options -> Open Enterprise Global
EGT is open - shows "Checked-out Enterprise Global"
Tools -> Customize -> Enterprise Fields
Custom Outlines Code tab, select "Project" radio button
.... this is where I get lost ... there isn't any delete option (tried right
clicking, pressing "Delete" key on keyboard etc)

Any further help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

HI Dale,

I'm guessing that one of the users has just re-published a project because
the column names have updated.

Thanks for your help!!

Did you open the Enterprise Global file and then click Tools - Organizer?
Did you click the Fields tab? On the right side of the dialog, you should
see the old custom enterprise Outline Codes that you created. If not, don't
worry about it. But you HAVE to do this in the Organizer, on the Fields
tab, with the Enterprise Global open. Hope this helps.
