Query does not display date entered on form?

I create an unbound control on a form as either a text entry box with format
of Short date or using the MS Date and Time Picker Control 6.0. I then create
a simple select query with an expression field set to the value of the date
control on the form. When I run the query this expression field is blank and
when I view the field properties there is no drop down menu of available
formats? Can anybody help?

What does the criteria look like for the date field in the query?

Thanks for responding Jerry. The query is selecting on another field, not the
date field, and the resulting record set is fine, so there is no criteria set
for the date field in question. This field is an expression comprising of the
date value in an unbound control on an open form. I have used the MS Date &
Time Picker 6.0 control to generate the date on the form and I am getting a
series of gobledy-gook symbols in the query field as if the data type or
format is not being recognised?
