Diane:

First off, sorry for posting so many times!

Second, thanks for your response. I wasn't sure how to create a new user in
my system preferences. I could make a new account. Is that what you mean?

I tried logging on with the shift key down. It is jumping around a bit
less, but it is still jumping. The cursor often appears to be flashing
around the screen just before it jumps.

Any other ideas would be most appreciated. I have a mac iBook g4 and I am
using system 10.4.10 if that is at all useful.

I have microsoft office 2004.

Let's first be clear about the terms User, Identity and Account.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings.

A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity and User are often
confused. Creating a new User in System Preferences is a good way to test in
a clean environment.

Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder. Creating a new Identity is a good way to test your
database to see if corruption is the problem.

1) by creating a new User in System Preferences, this eliminates any
problems in your User's folder including your Entourage Identity.

If this does not clear up the problem, then it's a system wide problem.
Downloading and running the latest Apple combo will overwrite old files and
could clear up the problem. Some users have had to do an "Archive &
Install".

2) If it worked in the new User, then you will need to test your User's
account. A) create a new Identity to eliminate database corruption, B) by
logging into your User's account with Shift key down will disable any haxies
and other startup items you have that could be causing the problem. C) next
step would be to test for a corrupt preference.

Note, holding down Shift key when launching Entourage will disable all
schedules and allow you to find a corrupt message and delete it from the
Outbox.

Diane, I think some of the confusion is because System Preferences uses the
term "Account" (occasionally User Account) to refer to what you are calling
(reasonably enough) a "User".

And of course Entourage uses the term "Account" to refer to something
completely different, namely an e-mail address.

No wonder people are confused!

I suppose I'll need to amend my explanation and add User account. <sigh>
