Save fails due to: out of memory or disk space, disk full or too many files open.

We are using a third party transcription package that opens pre-defined templates in Word 2002. The templates contain links to fields in the third party DB2 data base. Intermittently when trying to save we get one of two messages: "Out of memory or disk space" or "The disk is full or too many files are open". The disk has 42.9 GB available, and often the document being saved is the only document the user has open. Also, if the transcriptionist continues past the message and answers "yes" to "save anyway?" the document is then saved to the correct folder and with the correct attachments to the data base. I have been working with the third party vendor for over a month trying to solve this and we have not been able to. I found one knowledge base article (224041) suggesting the documents in question may contain corrupt or invalid links, but I'm not sure if this means we need to re-create all the templates or what. If any one has run into this problem before and has insight into what might be going on, it would be very much appreciated.

A rough guess is that the third party add-in is deregistering Word. Try
reregistering word by closing all Office Apps and then using Start, Run and
typing in

winword /r

and press enter. This should reregister Word in Windows and resolve the
problem. If it persists, then the third party add-in is probably flawed.

Sorry, the problem recurred this weekend even after re-registering Word on Friday.

I Had this problem occur numerous times

What we have managed to conclude is that if your document included any objects (images, equations....) they are at the root cause of the problem

In the past I have had to delete each object one by one and then try to save the file again. Keep doing this until eventually you will delete the object that is causing your problem and the file will allow you to save it

Let us know if you ever find a better way.
