saving a gantt chart format/structure in MS Project 2007

Hello,

Is there a way to save a gantt chart format or structure in MS Project 2007
so that you want to produce the same gantt chart in the future with updated
data, you don't have to re-do the formatting...i.e. only showing certain
columns, dates on the bars, etc.?

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

File/Save As.../ and in the Save as Type pick list, select Template. This
will save with the mpt (t for template) suffix. Then, when you open the
template, the suffix will be stripped off so that a normal save will give it
the mpp (p for project) suffix, this leavint the template for further use.

Please see FAQ Item: 8. New Project Template. FAQs, companion products and
other useful Project information can be seen at this web
address:http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike,

FAQ Item 8 speaks to a template for a "new project". Can you save a
template for an existing project that allows the migration of the latest data
into that particular template?

Thanks, Mike

Yes. First create the table you want (using the columns you like) from the
view menu, select table / more tables. Then copy the table you are using
and give it a new name.
THen create a view (similar process - except go to "more views" rather than
more tables and create a view which uses the table you just created.

Save it.

Then when you want that view, just switch to it.
