Scanning CHKDSK and Orphaned Files?

So whenever I turn on my computer, I get this lovely blue screen right away
before I get the black Windows XP screen, and following screen with the
scrolling blue dot bar.

The blue screen that comes up right away has the Windows XP logo at the top,
and then white text shows up saying that CHKDSK is scanning for something on
C:. It also says something about "volume is dirty".

After that, it says X% done, Step 1 of 3. The first step will go by fast,
and then comes 2 of 3, which goes slower. It tends to stop around 27%. After
this, a bunch of text will show up that says it found "orphaned files",
namely FILE__ BRKNetc etc etc, and a file called brokenxspirit. Then a whole
whack of other text scrolls up, and it goes pretty fast... all I can catch is
stuff about recovering files, errors, more orphaned files, etc. Now, I'll be
the first to admit I'm not computer savvy, and because of this, I'm worried
that it may have something to do with the router we just hooked up. Our
landlord lets us feed off his wireless for $20 a month, he bought us the
router, and now I'm afraid he's screwing with our computer somehow... if
that's possible. I don't know if it is. Anyway, if anyone knows what that
weirdo blue screen is, what Orphaned Files are, why my "volume is dirty", or
anything else, that'd be great.

Thank you.
