Scanpst repair creates 'fixed' empty file

Tricky one. Here's the story. Grateful for any assistance..
1. Started to have problems recieving email. Ran Scanpst which found 2
folder errors in the 349MG file. After repair, the folder only had 4
remaining folders (email folders, calendar, contacts folders no longer
there) but was still 349MB.
2. So I created a new profile (Control Panel>Mail>Add) and this created
a new blank Outlook1.pst.
3. Ran Scanpst on this new file (even before opening it for the first
time) and it had the same '2 folder error' and when 'fixed' , the file
is renamed 'Recovered Personal Folders' and contains only deleted items
and search folders (once again, no calendar, email, contacts etc).
Repair file is also in PST 97-2002 format whereas I am running Outlook
2003.
4. Ran Scanpst on the 'fixed' folder and says there are 6 folders and
no errors (yet there are only 2 folders).
5. Created a 'New' pst in Outlook>File>New and made it non-97-2002
format (just plain 2003 pst). This also had 2 folder error in scanpst.
6. Unistalled ActiveSync 4.1, Personal Folders Backup, Calendar Add-in
and then Outlook 2003
7. Ran Nortons OBC and rebooted
8. Reinstalled Outlook 2003

Same story as above with create new pst, create new profile. I even
created a new pst file on another computer, ran scanpst (no errors),
copied to my PC, ran scanpst and said it contained 2 folders etc etc

I think the problem was created by ActiveSync which is rubbish and
keeps hanging, crashing and destroying my 'Favorite Folders' in Outlook
for some reason.

I have also used Outlook Recovery Tool 1.0.4.23 which reduced the 349MB
origional to 62MG and also OutlookRecovery 1.5 which reduced the file
to 216MB and destroyed the Calendar items (1423 origional items reduced
to 1123 and all moved to the same day!!)

Anyway, I havent lost any data (although getting confused as to what
pst is what!!) but I want a 'clean' pst file that scandisk doesnt
destroy. Can anyone help? Thanks, Nic

Problem solved. Was using Scanpst 5.0.1457.3 which is the version for
Outlook 2002/XP. This explains the 'fix' to Personal folder type
97-2002 and why the files were blank. Using the Scanpst v11 (for use
with Outlook 2003) fixed the problem. No errors. All is fine.
