Schedule a project in progress

B

Brian

I have loaded Project 2007 with all the tasks for a project that has been in
progress since last October. There are about 500 tasks. About 100 have been
completed, about 50 are in progress, and the rest have yet to be started. I
have assigned resources to all the tasks, and actual start and finish dates
in the past for all completed tasks.

I want the program to schedule and level only the remaining work starting
from today. So far all I have been able to accomplish is scheduling all the
work, including the completed tasks, from the project start date. How do I
schedule only the remaining work correctly from now, but keep all the
completed tasks in the plan?

Hi Brian,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Try Tools/Tracking/Update Project… and Reschedule uncompleted work to start
after:

This is detailed in my series on Microsoft Project in the TechTrax ezine,
particularly #26 on progressing, at this site: http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc or

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the article before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

You have logical predecessors in the plan for the remaining work, I assume?
Resources assigned?
The completed tasks are 100% so they will have an Actual Start/Actual Finish
they will not move when you attempt to schedule other work. That is, you
have them showing as 100% Complete, correct?

The same holds true for started (but not yet completed) tasks. If there is
an Actual Start, and a %Complete, the task will stay unless you change
resource allocation or duration to move the end date to the right.

So, set the status date for "today" and make sure there is no unfinished
work to the left of that day. Your leveling should work just fine.

Tools/Tracking/Update Project. Select the radio button to reschedule all
incomplete work to after "today"
