Scheduling tasks against a 40 hour week rather than an 8 hour day

I would like to schedule tasks on a weekly basis, not a daily basis. I enter
time for a resource in the weekly view of the Resource Usage view. For
example, task 1 is a 50 hour task. I would like the resource to work on it
50% of the time which means on a weekly basis I will have these allocations:

1st week - 20 hours
2nd week - 20 hours
3rd week - 10 hours

My problem is that task 4 now starts on week 4. Task 3 was assigned 2 hours
each day rather than 10 hours for the week. I still have 10 hours on week 3
for my resource to work.

So, because I do not schedule resources to complete tasks by days, but
rather weeks, I want some way to make Project calculate tasks by number of
hours in a week rather than number of hours in a day.

Is this possible?

Set the task type to Fixed work.
Assign the resource with units of 50%
Set the work for the task to 50 hours. The task will now take 12.5 days or
2.5 weeks.
