Server extensions?

D

Darren Parry

Hi there. I have had my website working OK for the last 2 yrs but had some
gliches with it. I decided to delete all files from www.darrenparry.com and
re-publish them.

When I try to publish now (using Frontpage 2003 and Windows Vista operating
system) i get the following message:

| 1. The web server may not have FP server extensions installed (I checked
| they are installed) (my web server is Namesecure)
| 2. The web server may be temorarily out of service ( I checked it isn't)
| 3.The proxy settings may incorrect (not connected thru proxy)
| 4.An error may have occured in web server.
|
| Why won't it let me publish? Is it possible I've deleted the Frontpage
extensions file when I deleted ALL the files from my server. Are the
extensions in the form of a file that can be deleted?

Many thanks to anyone who can help...getting frustrated!!!

How did you delete all of the files from the serve, if via FTP, then you also delete the FP
extensions and they will need to be reinstalled by your web host.

All:

I get the same error message. I am using FrontPage 2003 on XP Home,
publishing to 2000 Server. I was able to publish fine, not too long
ago. But I am getting this same error. I have been, lately, creating
the web pages in FrontPage 2003 and then copying them over to the
server. I know I don't have the ability to use the webbots since the
server extensions are not installed. But, I have no choice at this
point.

My only option is to try and learn the programming language necessary to
write my own CGI scripts (which I am really not enjoying and really do
not want to do).

How can I get the server extensions back in such a way that they
function like they used to. Any advice? I was originally publishing
via HTTP and no other way. It was working fine.

I re-installed the server extensions. Everything on the server is
still slightly out of whack. But, when I tried to synchronize it all
(from local to remote (laptop where I do all the editing synchronized to
the server)), I get an error stating "System exception: Access
Violation." I have access via the HTTP setting of the publishing
options. Each time I try the "Local to remote" pushlishing, I am asked
about two conflicting files. One is a HTML called "supplies.htm" while
the other is called "global.asa." Is one of those the primary cause for
this?

I erased "global.asa" from the server thinking that it might be an
overwrite problem. But, then it had the problem again. It only told me
that the "supplies.htm" file had the "System exception: Access
violation" error. Did I ruin anything by deleting the "global.asa"
file? What does that file do that it was causing me so much grief?
Why, after eliminating the initial causes of the problems and reloading
the server extensions, does it continue to cause me problems?

Many thanks Thomas A. Rowe for the advice. Yes I deleted all the files from
the server via the ftp so it looks like I've deleted Frontage server
extensions. Will get in conctact with server host.

Thanks

Darren Parry
