Shortcuts not opening

When I click on a excel file shortcut on my desktop the
file does not open. I don't get any errors it just does
not open. I recently upgrade my machine from Office 97 to
Office XP and the files are on a mapped network drive. I
can open these files once I have Excel open but cannot
invoke them from a shortcut. Can any one Help?
