slow detetion of characters in Outlook/Word

I have Office 03. When I want to delete a sentence and push the backspace key
the charachters used to delete rapidly. Now they are deleting very slowly.
This is happening in Outlook and Word. How can the speed of deleting
characters get back to rapid? ~ Dan

I changed the keyboard repeat rate and solved the problem, but am wondering
how the rate slowed down in the first place. I never touched it.
