Smart-shape to dumb-shape? Help with cross functional flow shape?

D

Dan

Greetings!
For my purposes, I'd like to use the cross functional shape to build up
swimlanes that don't change no mater how or what kind of shape is dropped on
them. Using a background page is somewhat inconvenient for my pupose.

Can you tell me how to kill the code or events that cause the
cross-functional shape to interact with other shapes while leaving its other
behaviour intact? (in particular, I don't want other shapes to become
attached to a lane nor do I want the lane to change its width)

Thanks in advance!

The quick solution is to go to Tools > Options > Security and uncheck Enable
Automation Events. However, you will want to re-enable this after you are
done, since this is necessary for many other drawings in Visio to work
properly.

Another solution is to copy the shapes on the Cross Functional flowchart
stencil (all 2 of them) to a new stencil. You can right click on the shapes
and add them to My Shapes as one option. Then modify these shapes to strip
out the automatic call to the Cross Functional Flowchart add-on. To do
this, edit the master shape. Select the shape in the edit window that opens
and go to Window > Show Shapesheet. Scroll down to the Events section and
put a zero in the EventDrop cell. Close the edit window and save the
changes. Then save your stencil. This should prevent the add-on from being
activated. Now restart Visio and make a new blank drawing. Open your
stencil and the Basic Flowchart Shapes stencil. Now you can draw in peace!
