Some bookmarks don't convert to Adobe PDF and others do.

I regularly update a Word document and convert it to Adobe PDF. It contains a
TOC with hyperlinks to pages in the Word document. Recently, some of the
links in the TOC are inactive in the PDF, however they work properly in the
Word document. I have remade the links several times in the Word document,
but the same ones come out inactive in the PDF. I noticed that the cursor bar
next to the problem bookmarks in the Word document do not "blink" like the
cursors next to the good bookmarks. How can I get these bookmarks remade so
they will show up active in the PDF? Why are only a few of the bookmarks bad?

I've had the same problem with a new file I created in InDesign. 5 of the bookmarks did not work when I created the PDF, even though they worked fine in InDesign.

I noticed all 5 of the bookmarks had an apostrophe or quotation marks in them.

I went back and made the bookmarks only highlighting the first word of the text, then changed the bookmark name to reflect the true name of the bookmark (apostrophes, quotation marks and all).

It worked.

I *think* the bookmark syntax probably uses ' or " in it, and having the apostrophes and quotation marks in the bookmarks threw it for a loop. That makes sense, knowing what I know about html.

If you haven't fixed your problem yet, this might do it.
